Did you have a great summer? We hope so! But now it’s time to go back to school. You might not realize it, but back to school time can be a tough time of year for our vehicles. Your car may suddenly be doing a whole lot more driving—off to college, or to and from school every day. You might be looking at a long-distance trip, or a lot of stop-and-go driving in the pick-up/drop-off line. This is the perfect time to make sure that your car is in top shape for whatever lies ahead.
Here are three easy things you can check to make sure your car is ready to go!
1. Get your oil changed.
We know you’re running around buying school supplies and dorm furnishings. The last thing you need is to add an expensive engine repair to your list! One of the easiest ways to keep your car’s engine healthy is to stick to your regular oil changes. Don’t skip this, in all the flurry of getting ready for school. Check now to see when your next oil change is due, and mark it on your calendar or set an alert on your phone so that it doesn’t get lost in the shuffle.
2. Check your battery.
There’s nothing worse than getting your kids up and ready for school and out the door, only to find your car won’t start! This is a good time to get your battery checked, before the cold weather hits. (And yes, it will eventually get cold in Texas!)
3. Don’t forget your lights.
Stop and go school traffic means lots and lots of braking. This is the perfect time to run an eye over your brake lights and make sure they’re in working order. While you’re at it, check your headlights and tail lights as well. Before you know it the days will be shorter, and you’ll need all your lights!
Remember, maintenance is always better than repair. These are three easy things you can check right now, that could save you a lot of trouble down the road. If you need help with any of this or would like us to look over your vehicle to make sure everything is in working order, we’re more than happy to!
Thanks, and have a great school year!
